Global Media Giants To Follow Rupert Murdoch To China

Mobile is the best way for global media companies to reach the Chinese hearts. The reasons are many. One, there are 400-plus million mobile customers in China and its 1.3 billion people have interests in “films, music, news and other information and entertainment”.
Second, the traditional forms of media like TV and print have more government restrictions, while mobile phones as a media form are relatively free. Another reason: these networks are more secure and offer a potential way to sell content that is less easily pirated.
So as Rupert Murdoch teamed up with China Mobile, it’s likely that many other global media giants would be looking at mobile as a tool to win Chinese hearts. “Media companies across the world are expected to follow in Mr Murdoch’s path (to China)…a number of US media groups are believed to be in talks with mobile phone operators in China about deals to distribute content. If the model does work, it is widely expected to become the focus for many China operations, at least for as long as the Chinese authorities continue to restrict foreign access to television broadcasting”.
