ABP Wants To Straddle Across All Media Platforms

Indiantelevision.com has a story on Kolkata’s conservative media group Ananda Bazar Patrika, the publishers of The Telegraph. The group plans to do a makeover and aims to become the Time Warner of India by straddling across all mediums of TV, the internet, mobile and print. It had recently appointed Pramath Sinha, former McKinsey principal in India, as the CEO. In the traditional media, they are planning new thematic TV channels, and a presence in FM radio (it has already won the licence for Kolkata city). The company is already a partner with Star group in its news channel business – Star News.
It has a limited presence in the Internet till now, but it looks like mobile and the internet are two strong areas of growth for the company in the future. It owns portal like Anandautsav.com and mobile content company Heyya. The company recently appointed former Times of India online editor Saurav Sen as the head of new media.
