Kosei Ito Of Square Enix On US Mobile Gaming

Square Enix is entering the US mobile market with some pretty serious games aimed at the hardcore gamer, a different approach to the usual buckshot of casual games that are the normal offering.
Kosei Ito, Vice President and Producer of Mobile Products, “understands the American market is different, but he also understands what people expect from Square Enix. “A user of Square Enix games always expects something innovative and brand new,” says Ito, referring to Cerberus as one of the first 3D first-person action games for mobile.”
What’s particularly interesting is the success Square Enix has had in Japan with mobile gaming — its mobile division brings in $30 million per year from Japan. “Before Crisis – Final Fantasy VII is perhaps the division’s greatest triumph — on its launch day, the mobile RPG was accessed no fewer than 1.6 million times. Those are numbers that every American mobile maker covets.”
