@ Content 2.0: Robbie Williams’ Manager Gets The Last Word

A rather rowdy drinks’n’close session at the Albannach bar down the road with Factory Records founder Tony Wilson on the stage. There seemed to be a gulf between old ‘Tone and the new media audience though; a healthy heckle ended in Wilson telling someone to “shut the f** up”. He was interviewing IE Music director Tim Clark, who manages Robbie Williams – though there was no sign of him…
He was asked about mobile delivery and said it’s working well in Japan and Korea, and that IE Music had worked with T-Mobile and Sony Ericsson to offer live music coverage that went out to 3,000 people. “We have to experiment and see where it’s going, not just for superstars like Robbie Wiliams but for other stars that are struggling to make a living.”
Clark said that Steve Jobs is undoubtedly a pioneer, but that Apple’s 85 per cent share of music downloads is not sustainable. “Apple doesn’t control 85 per cent of downalods in Japan for a start,” he said. “A bigger concern for us is how much artists get from each 79p download – 3 or 4 pence is typical and that ain’t great. Who is the richest man in the music industry? Steve Jobs, probably.”
