UK’s newspaper Times is developing a TV service called Times TV, News International chairman Les Hinton mentioned yesterday at the WAN Moscow conference (News Int. is owned by News Corp)….The service will have aggregated content provided by partners and is to launch shortly. It is not that big a deal, but for UK newspaper which haven’t really experimented with online video too much (beyond clips on sites like TheSun), it probably is new. Cisco Systems will sponsor the venture, he said.
He mentioned that revenues at Times Online had risen 45% year on year. Revenues were being created by online activities and mobile phone games such as sudoku, quizzes and crosswords that could be sent to mobile phones.
News Corp. also recently announced plans to publish a print edition of the newspaper in the U.S. based on the popularity of its site among Americans.
