[by James Pearce] There’s a short piece here about a consortium being set up to launch a T-DMB service in India in October. “The MoTV Consortium led by ABSi comprises of 4 local firms including Prasa Barti, Mother Company of stated-owned All India Radio, and two content providers. The consortium disclosed its plans to launch test service in October this year before commercial service is set for next year.” The test will be in New Delhi, and there are plans to add data services and video-on-demand, and expand into Mumbai and Calcutta.
That’s all that’s in the note, and a search on the net didn’t find much at all. I can’t find a “US-based ABSi” that is a systems integrator, but there is such a company based in Belgium. Likewise, a search for “MoTV” shows that it is the name of a proprietary mobile video platform owned by RMD Entertainment, a hip-hop marketing company. It will be using the system to distribute mobile content based on a series of concerts — I’m not sure if its connected with the Indian consortium or whether it’s a co-incidental name similarity.
