This is a fairly damning account of mobile content and its ability to help people roaming the globe. Gord Hotchkiss found the mapping function of his Pocket PC useless when visiting Montreal…”I got one block from the hotel and was totally lost. I had no idea where north and south were. The tiny 2.5- by 3.5-inch screen held no clues for me, as I zoomed in and out and helplessly panned around, looking for a street with which I could get my bearings. Street names sometimes appeared, and sometimes didn’t.”
He goes on to talk about an $800 data roaming bill for a two week holiday, leading him to be very fearful of using the mobile web. It’s not everyone’s experience, but it talks about some issues that need to be addressed.
