Updated: The streaming plans unveiled back in Feburary for DisneyChannel.com are scheduled to become reality Friday. The setup includes a custom video player with social networking and interactive elements — shout outs for online/on-air tickers, customized look, show ratings with a “top votes” list, playlists. etc. The lineup features full-length new episodes of top shows. Disney’s action-oriented Jetix.TV will launching its video player at the same time has already launched.
As is the case with the shows being streamed on ABC.com, many of the Disney Channel shows are also available on iTunes. More later; in the meantime, some additional details from Variety.
Update: Like ABC.com, the broadband content will be ad supported; via press release, Disney says advertisers will be able to stream full-length or customized spots alongside series content. Fixed display ads also are being sold.
— Shows will be available in six languages — English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi and Mandarin.
— The DisneyChannel.com player debut includes two un-aired episodes of “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.”
Update II: Turns out Jetix.TV’s video player is already live so if you want a sense of what DisneyChannel.com’s version will be like take a look. The kids player differs significantly from the sophisticated player in use at ABC.com. They’re aimed at different audiences and it shows. Disney Channel is also taking a different tack with advertising; instead of embedding single-advertiser ads in episodes or trying anything interactive, the emphasis is on pre-roll and fixed ads. It could be a few days before ads are included.
