If you’re reading paidContent.org, you will know I’m at the WSJ-organized D conference…our coverage is here. At the conference opening yesterday, Bill Gates talked about “reality acquisition device” (in relation to mobiles) and that got picked up on a bunch of blogs and other places as a new buzzword. So I’ll do the buzzkill for y’all: He described it where you’ll be able to see an image, for example, and get “augmented reality views of a thing on a portable device,” such as going to a baseball game and seeing replays and getting extra information on the screen.
Hey, I thought we had settled on the terminology for that a few years ago…it is called “location based services”, especially in relation to connected portable devices like mobile phones. Maybe it is another MSFT attempt to coin something different…or maybe Gates just made it up on the spot. Anyway, that’s settled…
