Here’s some good news for proponents of mobile TV…the O2 DVB-H trial has found that the 375 triallists spent an average fo four hours watching TV — an hour more than was reported halfway through the trial. “The locations where they watched the 16-channel service also altered as users became more accustomed to the service, which offered channels including BBC 1 and News 24, ITVs 1 and 2, Channel 4, Five, Sky Sports News, MTV and Cartoon Network.”
People watched it at home 32% of the time, compared to 36% halfway through the trial, which is a fall, but not a dramatic one. However, “Some users said they had changed their commuting habits so as to catch their favourite shows while on the bus.” The triallists were also cautious about using the expensive phones in public, with street usage just 1% and pub usage just 3%.
“Overall, 85% of O2’s triallists said they were satisfied or more than satisfied with it and 72% would take it up within a year of launch – though there was no real agreement on exactly how much they would be willing to spend on it.”
However, it was successful enough that O2 is looking to extend the trial…
