More Details on Hong Kong Telecom’s 3G TV

There are some more (or new?) details on the 3G TV service Hong Kong CSL launched a couple of months ago.
“The service launched 20 real-time channels, costing just less than 8 cents per minute, a price that is likely to drop over time. Content comes from Hong Kong’s two terrestrial broadcasters, TVB and ATV, and its I-Cable system as well as foreign media companies like BBC World, Bloomberg Television and Fashion TV. A horse-racing channel is likely to be popular among Hong Kong’s avid gamblers.”
That price is cheaper than the 13 US cents per minute mentioned a few months ago, but I don’t know how much of that is due to currency fluctuation — it seems to have come down a bit anyway. The number of channels has increased from nine to twenty.
The story recognises that mobile TV has had mixed results in Japan and South Korea, but HK CSL thinks that its service will be more successful because it is relatively easy-to-use and will have “good content”. Mind you, pretty much everyone says that about their service…
