There’s a couple of telco deals being reported…
“China Mobile Communications is reportedly on the verge of acquiring Millicom International Cellular in a $5.3 billion deal…Millicom only serves 10 million customers, but it controls valuable licenses in 16 developing countries, including Bolivia, El Salvador, Chad and Cambodia, the report said. The territory it covers holds nearly 400 million people.”
The board of Irish telco Eircom Group has accepted a takeover bid from Australia’s Babcock & Brown Capital that values Ireland’s dominant telephone company at 2.42 billion euros ($3.1 billion)…”Eircom’s mobile phone division, Meteor, which has 625,000 customers and an 8% market share, a distant third in a mobile-mad country dominated by Vodafone and O2. Topfer said he hoped to increase Meteor’s share above 20%.”
