Marketing Mobile Music

eMarketer has a report on mobile music, not so much on how successful it will be but on what competition it faces, not just from other music sources but from other categories seeking the discretionary spending of the customer. There’s a strong suggestion that flexible music products will be the most successful, as customers seek to move their music files across all of their devices depending on where they are. “The sheer variety of ways that digital music can be packaged and played on different fixed or mobile devices lends credence to the idea that mobile music will not likely be permanently fixed to a specific device.”
There’s a great deal of variety in what proportion of a population listens to music on their mobile phones depending on the country, as shown in the graph below.
