“Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen Friday declared Cambodia should ban 3G (third-generation) mobile phones for a further decade after receiving a petition signed by his wife branding the technology a danger to marital fidelity…Signatories to the petition to ban the new technology said that one of their main fears was that young women could send suggestive images of themselves through the phones, prompting formerly faithful husbands to indulge in activities they would not normally have thought of.”
I don’t want to use cliches that include words like baby and bathwater, head and sand, but seriously…
The other issue is political activism — mobiles have already been used in a number of places to organise rallies and to spread grass roots political campaigns, and cameraphones have been used to report on numerous incidents of state violence and/or oppression. The complaints in the petition are not restricted to 3G, previous generation handsets can also do that…the petition demands banning mobile phones with pictures.
