Common Sense Media
is the leading non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to improving media and entertainment choices for kids and families. Based in San Francisco and founded in 2003, Common Sense Media is growing rapidly. We are expanding our distribution through leading MSOs, portals, e-commerce partners, and other service providers.
Common Sense Media is seeking an experienced Business Development Director to work closely with the COO to develop and drive a comprehensive content distribution program that will broaden distribution of our content and brand, while generating revenue for Common Sense. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in online marketing and business development, strategic and creative thinking skills, a collaborative work style and the ability to conceptualize as well as implement integrated marketing partnership programs. This position reports directly to the COO.
The Director of Business Development’s responsibilities include:
— Lead partnership distribution strategy, including identifying key partners, defining our value proposition, determining pricing and other sources of value;
— Develop relationships with leading media companies, across multiple platforms, in order to increase distribution of Common Sense Media content, promote our brand, and monetize our content;
— Structure, negotiate, close partnership deals; act as liaison with outside counsel and other Common Sense departments;
— Manage account relationships to ensure highest value to both the partner and Common Sense; expand relationships across products and platforms wherever possible; act as liaison between client and product/technical teams; and
— Act as a member of senior leadership team; contribute to organization’s overall growth strategy, as well as leading execution as needed
Required Qualifications:
— Bachelor’s degree; MBA preferred;
— 5+ years in relevant experience, including sales, business development, consulting, channel marketing and/or other online branded consumer products and services;
— Knowledge and passion across media, including applications, content, distribution and business models;
— Strategic thinker;
— Organized, entrepreneurial self-starter; able to identify what needs to get done, then willing and able to make it happen;
— Great attention to detail and follow-through;
— Sense of ownership; passionate for results;
— Comfortable leading relationship and closing;
— Excited by leading relationships, not just transactional selling;
— Strong presentation skills, including developing PowerPoint materials and delivering those presentations to senior executives;
— Can work both independently and in teams
— Knowledge of kids and family issues as well as the broader media and technology world a plus
