Greg Ballard has come out swinging…the CEO of Glu is livid with some of the numbers floating around and market commentary based on those numbers, about the current state of the mobile gaming market. To get the context first, in case you haven’t been following the debate, read the related links we’ve put together at the end of this post. And then, listen to this interview below.
Greg talks about the discussions coming out of the recently concluded E3 conference, the wildly varying data from research agencies M:Metrics and Telephia, and the inherent flaws in that data.
The data is flawed (especially the M:Metrics one), he said, and that an over-reaching conclusion about the state of the mobile gaming market has been made from that, and that overshadows a lot of the true growth and excitement that is taking place in this business.
“We think that the answer is somewhere in between [between flatline and very high growth rate]…besides our data, and remarks from competitors like EA and I-Play, we have talked to the carriers, and by and large the operators here and worldwide have told us that their gaming business is growing anywhere between 30-75 percent.”
That and other issues about the limitations of the current market, with handsets and operators etc, the VC and M&A activity in market.
