The Editors Weblog has picked up on a recent NYT story that had nothing to do with mobile newspaper content, for precisely that reason. “The article mentions games, sports scores, fantasy sport leagues, entertainment, television programs, virtual reality, social networking and original programming created for small screens as potential popular additions to consumers’ monthly mobile phone subscriptions, some of which start at a base fee of almost $200. Notice the lack of news related item on this list.”
I think it’s a bit early to be throwing in the towel…the problem is probably the format as much as anything else — there are better ways to deliver news to mobiles than forwarding whatever was in the print or online publications.
