In UK, Teletext is launching a cross-network WAP service today to include news, sport, entertainment, travel information and weather from the Teletext Digital TV service. There’s a ‘My Teletext’ option for a customised homepage, downloadable games, ringtones and betting, and a World Cup SMS results service from 9 June.
Teletext already offers a raft of SMS news alerts covering sports, news and lifestyle features such as horoscopes. An inevitable step, but a curiously olde worlde brand… Teletext couldn’t figure out how to make money from its news website and closed it down in June 2004, leaving just the popular holidays and classifieds sites running online. The new mobile service is part of a wider digital strategy by owners The Daily Mail & General Trust.
