Not to be confused with MobileESPN, the MVNO service in U.S…this is Mobile ESPN (yep, you get the difference, right?), the content package in Asia from ESPN STAR Sports (the JV between ESPN and STAR), covering football, cricket, tennis, golf, rugby, and major sports leagues including the English Premier League (EPL), MLB and NBA, amongst others.
That package will be out in seven Asian countries…it will be launched with an alliance of mobile operators in Asia, called Bridge Mobile Alliance. Bridge has Airtel (India), CSL (Hong Kong), Globe Telecom (Philippines), Maxis (Malaysia), SingTel Mobile (Singapore), Taiwan Mobile (Taiwan) and Telkomsel (Indonesia) as the operators inside this alliance, and MobileESPN will be launching through them.
Mobile ESPN’s coverage of the 2006 World Cup is the first sports content to be commercially launched. The services are delivered through a regional infrastructure platform provided by Bridge Mobile and rights holder/vendor NeuStar.
