Mitch Lasky (head of EA Mobile) talks about the mobile game business… EA Mobile will do 57,000 stock-keeping units this year — a stock-keeping unit is a game for a particular handset on a particular carrier. He said only EA and Gameloft had figured out ways to handle that kind of volume. An interesting point he made is that the mobile games business “is very much a catalog business“, it’s the old games that bring in the revenue — for Gameloft he cites 94% as the figure and says that for EA it’s around the high 80’s. “So, really, what you’re doing with those 57,000 SKUs is building the catalog for ’08 and ’07 (fiscal ’08, calendar ’07).”
