Eclectic, Vast Smithsonian Folk Collection Will Be Marketed By The Orchard


Nonprofit record label Smithsonian Folkways Recordings has agreed to an encompassing marketing deal with The Orchard that should finally make much of the incomparable colllection available via online music stores like iTunes. Previous efforts between Apple and the Smithsonian Institution failed, according to the Journal, because of the commercial company’s contract language and the label’s technological limitations. The label was founded by Moses Asch in 1948 and was acquired from his estate by the Smithsonian on the condition that every title remain in print.
