AP and Topix In Local News Attribution Deal

Online news search and aggregation site Topix.net and AP’s digital arm are teaming up in an attempt to send more visitors to newspaper sites responsible for breaking stories…as part of a 15-month agreement, AP will identify the stories that local papers contribute to the news cooperative so Topix can do a better job displaying links to the original source material (as opposed to the other newspaper sites which pick it up from AP), thus giving proper credit/attribution.
Not really that significant in itself, but at least helps newspapers get more comfortable working with a news search engine like Topix. No money changed hands in this deal.
Topix also has a deal with AP to republish its stories and photos, as part of its new push to become more like say Yahoo News (republishing stories form news sources), along with its news search engine.
As regular readers know, AP also has some sort of business or rev share deal with Google News…we’re not exactly sure what and how, but will soon find out for you.
