Discovery Communications, which owns channels like Discovery, TLC and Animal Planet, is launching another brand, Turbo, a new broadband channel dedicated to all things motorized. The channel launches July 4, with more than 250 short-form video clips ranging from mechanical tutorials to news and information about motor sports.
A VOD service will be introduced in the Q4, featuring VOD content culled from Discovery Nets shows like American Chopper, Overhaulin’ and Extreme Air. A third Turbo-branded element, a new programming block set to bow on TLC in December, will be populated by a new season of American Chopper.
Discovery launched its first lineup of broadband channels: Discovery Channel Beyond, Travel Channel Beyond and Animal Planet Beyond, in April. It plans to introduce Discovery Mobile sometime in the third quarter of 2006.
