This is big amount for such a nascent field, but WeeWorld has been rumored to be an acquisition target for some time now. The Glasgow-based online and mobile avatar firm and creators of the WeeMee digital identity, has received $15.5 milliion in second round funding, from Accel Partners and Benchmark Capital.
The company’s main client is MSN Messenger, where WeeMee is embedded worldwide in ten European countries. It is also on some Nokia handsets by default and on some mobile operators. WeeWorld did a first round last year, with Benchmark, and has been around since 2000.
