This is close to the strategy of Karsanbhai Patel (of the famous Nirma soap powder which revloutionised rural marketing). It can work in entertainment too. Interworld Digital, a Mumbai-based IT and digital entertainment company, plans to use digital cinema to target rural audience. The company plans to start small cinema halls with 60 to 100 capacities and then exhibit cinema using digital technology.
MM Gupta, Chairman, Interworld Digital, said, “When films are made for the masses why restrict them to the upper class by encouraging multiplexes. We have decided to make small theatres with a capacity of 60-100. The main problem for these theatres is the availability of content because showing films with worn out prints is not a good option. Here’s where Digital cinema comes to the rescue.”
Besides, the company plans to foray into film production, distribution (analog and digital), overseas film distribution, audio and DVD releases.
