Skype is trying to convince operators that they should embrace VoIP…some have banned the services from their networks and some have signed deals.
Skype’s head of business development, Eric Lagie, spoke at the Wireless Event in London on Tuesday to give an idea of where the VoIP giant plans to go, which includes building a global Wi-Fi network with Google. “The “endgame”, Lagier said, was to provide future users a dual-mode phone with the ability to use a single number and identity, whether for IM, VoIP, video or email.”
To do so it will need something like the enum system which maps IP addresses to phone numbers, and/or the recently approved .tel domain.
