Bharti Airtel (that’s the new name of Bharti Tele-Ventures) has launched a virtual phone book service. Christened “Save My Phone Contact”, it’s available for both its pre-paid and post-paid customers in Delhi, of course at a monthly rental of Rs 30. All Airtel mobile customers in Delhi will be able to store and retrieve their important contacts anytime, anywhere through SMS (it’s not chargeable).
The service is handy as the numbers will be stored in Bharti’s server and you can retrieve them when you lose your handset or SIM card, or when you have used up the phone book memory space.
The company may extend the service to other circles too. But I am not sure how many people will opt for the service since Rs 30 is still a big sum for Indian subscribers.
