News media are awash with reports that Verizon has offered $48 billion to buy out Vodafone’s share in their US joint venture, all based on an article in The Observer. (In the article the headline is in pounds but the story has dollar signs…I’m going with dollars as the most likely currency). The deal also includes $8 billion in debt, so the total cost to Verizon would be $56 billion. Of course, all this is based on an anonymous source, so not a great deal of weight can be put on it.
