BT’s Life Beyond The Phone: The Media Company

Times UK has a detailed interview with BT CEO Ben Verwaayen on how the company is changing as broadband TV and IT services are becoming the main sources of revenue. That transformation will take another step forward this year when BT launches its own broadband TV service, BT Vision.
Using a set-top box made by Philips, BT Vision will offer all the 30 or so channels available on Freeview, along with an extensive range of on-demand content. BT will this week announce new content partners.
Verwaayen: “The next generation of content is not what the big entertainment companies make. It’s what people make themselves. People my age have no idea that a lot of opinion-forming happens in cyberspace. You’ll find BT Vision is delivering capabilities to the living room for people to make their own content and share it with others in a way we have not seen before.”
Independent UK: Five issues to worry Ben Verwaayen: It faces stiff competition from the likes of BSkyB, soon to launch its own IPTV service.
