Exchange4Media.com: This could be the first time an India media company venturing into the retail trade – in the sense selling their products to the consumer directly through a store. The India Today Group has launched Media Mart – which will sell magazines and other media products. It’s an independent venture from the Delhi-based group. It will sell competitors’ products too. It already has two outlets operational in Delhi Metro (Kashmere Gate and Pitampura stations) and another 19 outlets, including two walk-in outlets at the Rajiv Chowk Metro station, have been leased from Delhi Metro Rail Corp.
The magazine publisher is directly in conflict with retail trade. It will be interesting to see how the retail trade will respond to this.
