Cingular Pulls Offensive Ringtone

Cingular has removed a ringtone from its site after hispanic activists called the product racist — it began with a siren followed by a southern drawl claiming to be “La Migra” and threatening deportation. It was obvious some people were going to get offended and equally obvious that Cingular would take down a ringtone rather than offending the large hispanic market. What’s interesting is that the ringtone was originally provided by Barrio Mobile, an original mobile content production company run by Cellfish (nee Lagardere Mobile). It was probably meant to be edgy and more insulting to “La Migra” than the hispanics, but it was only downloaded from the Cingular deck eight times in the couple of months it was available…
