Iger: ESPN MVNO Initial Results “Lower Than Hoped”

Queried about Disney’s MVNO strategy during this afternoon’s Q2 earnings call, Disney president and CEO Bob Iger admitted that initial results for Mobile ESPN were “lower than hoped” — prompting the change in pricing, the new marketing approach and the move into more retail outlets. “It’s clear that the jury is still out,” he said.
CFO Thomas Staggs said the company was still estimating overall MVNO start-up expenses of $130 million and mentioned the Disney MVNO due fior a summer launch.
