Industry Moves: Zaslav Adds New Media to NBCU Plate; International M&A Possible

A bit of a shakeup at NBCU’s distribution arm: NBC Universal added oversight of new-media activities to David Zaslav’s responsibilities…Zaslav, who had been serving as president of NBC U Cable, was elevated to president, cable and domestic TV and new-media distribution. He now has responsibility for NBCU’s TV-windowing strategy over various platforms.
Zaslav will also work closely with NBC’s digital head Beth Comstock and her team on electronic sell-through (encompassing content deals with entities such as iTunes) and wireless initiatives.
Barry Wallach, president of domestic TV distribution, will report to Zaslav instead of to Frederick Huntsberry, who, in the restructuring, was named to the new role of president, NBCU International.
C21: Huntsberry said his international plan (includes theatrical and home entertainment, CNBC Asia and Europe, etc) “may involve some M&A activity,” including expanding NBCU brands onto new media platforms.
