3 has started offering advertising space on its mobile games portal. The ad space is targeted to mobile games companies (which makes sense) and is independent of the carrier’s regular games content which is managed according to its own editorial priorities. “The network operator said the new space has already attracted the interest of two games publishers, Digital Chocolate and Advanced Mobile Solutions (AMS).”
This is obviously a way for 3 to get a bit more revenue, and for games companies to bypass the operator selection process — albeit for a price. The article reports 3’s games portal had 6.4 million downloads in 12 months from 3.5 million customers, to give an idea of audience size.
