MySpace.com Adds Comedy Section With Heavy Commercial Emphasis

A heads up from Pali Research’s Richard Greenfield, who caught the addition of a comedy section at MySpace.com, a continuation of the company’s efforts to increase revenues from the social networking site. The section includes content from users but it’s not user-generated. Sierra Mist is a prominent product sponsor. The emphasis so far is on commercial or sponsored content — the Improv pick of the week, video from upcoming movies, what looks like an ad for a comedy tour. There’s a “MySpace funniest viral video of the week” but it doesn’t play on the page; instead, it links to a user page in the Videos section.
