PDAs without phones continue free fall

Palm TreoSales numbers for PDAs without phone capabilities continued its 9th straight quarter of lower sales according to IDC reports.  The number of shipping units in Q1 was down 22.3 percent from the same period last year.  Palm was the top seller of such devices with over 32 percent of the sales, with HP, Dell, Acer, and Mio rounding out the top five.  Palm’s Treo line of converged PDAs continues to post increasing sales numbers and even surpassed Palm’s line of non-phone devices.  Industry experts expect converged devices with phone capabilities to soon account for 15 percent of all mobile phone sales, securing a place in the mainstream market.
