NME.com, the website of UK music mag NME, will launch a P2P online music service, which will raise some eyebrows. It is a white-label service from Mercora, the online radio and music sharing service which has been borderline, in terms of legality (meaning on the legal side until it gets sued, essentially).
MyNME Radio listeners will be able to access user-contributed music catalogs as well as being able to browse and listen, though not download, music from other various users libraries. MyNME Radio will be available from June and will be free of charge for all NME.com’s 1.5m users a month.
NME is owned by IPC, the UK magazine group which was bought by Time Warner a few years ago.
