DNA: Mumbai leads the pack of online payment users. According to a study by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), Mumbai topped the chart with 26.6 per cent consumers preferring to pay online, followed by New Delhi (19.8 per cent), Chennai (7.1 per cent) and Bangalore (6.5 per cent). Among states, Maharashtra topped with 33.4 per cent consumers preferring to use the internet to pay bills, followed by Delhi with 20.1 per cent.
A 73 per cent of the online payment customers used it to pay mobile bills and 58 per cent electricity bills, followed by insurance premiums (42 per cent) and Internet access bills (36 per cent), 27 per cent for their magazine subscription online.
The study further indicated that the number of online payment users would see six-fold increase in two years. It’s expected to increase to 1.8 million by 2007 from a 0.3 million in 2005-06, it said.
