French Competitiveness Initiative Eyes Mobile TV

The French government has announced the first six projects to be supported by the Agency for Industrial Innovation (AII). The third project is Mobile TV Without Limits (TVMSL), which “will pursue standards for delivering TV programming to mobile phones. Sagem Communications, Aliena Space, Philips and the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) are collaborating on this 98 million-euro ($121.2 million) project. AII co-financing amounts to 38 million euros ($47 million)”.
According to an Alcatel release it’s part of the group too, along with DiBcom which has just announced it will support Alcatel‘s technology. Alcatel is promoting DVB-H in the S band, basically DVB-H delivered by satellite, which has the main benefit of have more available spectrum in the EU. The French government is obviously keen for it to be popular…
