Nokia To Launch Direct Handset Stores; UK First; Handset Sales

I was not aware this would be the first time Nokia would be selling handets directly to consumers through online stores: anyway, it is launching a UK online shop, the first in a global roll-out, selling SIM card-free handsets direct to consumers.
The shop features exclusive mobile handsets and devices as well as a full range of its existing products. Nokia plan to launch more online shops in Europe in the second half of 2006 before taking the stores global.
Meanwhile, the company also increased its handset market share: Unit sales increased 40% in the first quarter of 2006 compared to last year, enabling the Finnish firm to grow its share of global sales from 32% to 35%
