This is a very significant trend, which you’ll probably see happening in U.S. as well, where leagues have and will see their grip on the rights loosen, as ubiquity of scores and other sports packages increases (contract this with the Sprint-NFL deal below). These rights issues go back and forth, and one one hand, this ubiquity, and then on the other hand, online and mobile rights are becoming more lucrative in money terms.
So against this backdrop, this story says that in UK, mobile operators are cooling on the idea of buying exclusive rights to Premier League football matches, in contrast with the expected battle to show live games on TV that gets under way next week.
