Cingular has reported its first quarter earnings, reporting a profit of $354 million in the first three months of the year on revenues of $9 billion, a 9% year-on-year increase. Although average revenue per user (ARPU) fell 2.3% to $48.48 the revenue from data rose, climbing from $3.70 a year ago to $5.22 this year. The operator also added 1.7 million subscribers, although 600,000 of those are prepaid.
