The Hutchison Telecommunications group — in this case, the one that runs 3 Australia — “is poised to ink a deal worth about $500,000 for mobile phone rights for the football World Cup in Germany in June”. The deal is seen as some sort of threat to FIFA’s plans to sell a seperate online package, but it doesn’t really say how…the big problem seems to be FIFA’s plans to show highlights on its own site. That’s the benefit with mobile I guess, just because one company puts it up doesn’t mean it competes with everyone else in the world. “Telstra was understood to be keen on a broader deal for new media rights but failed to reach an agreement with Infront.”
