Chuck D Mobile plans to sell content through a storefront on the Web, but the main goal is to get carriers to distribute the service over their networks.
While the service will offer music from the recording labels, the development of this portal highlights the trend of artists increasingly making deals with mobile music publishers to produce ring tones and other wireless content instead of working with traditional record labels, the story says.
