Street Art Takes An Animated Edge

Here’s something interesting from Hobart (Tasmania) based Blue Rocket…it went to MIPTV and scored some funding from the National Film Board of Canada for its Urban Anarchy project. The cunning plan? “The concept is to take 10 well-known street artists from major world cities and involve them in becoming artists in virtual residence in online space, a three-dimensional environment delivered online in real time,” says Blue Rocket “rocket scientist” David Gurney. There’s also a documentary. “We’ll be focusing on interesting places or places where there’s challenging stuff going on; street art is often communicating or responding to some pretty serious social issues.”
They’ll also be focusing on the higher end of the spectrum, graffiti artists, rather than losers who just scrawl a tag somewhere.
