One observation about this whole Web 2.0 thing – all the smart entrepreneurs are incredibly young. I just thought it would be fun to give them a little bit of a history lesson and introduce them to names, ideas, and things from the recent past – aka Web 1.0. I am not sure if I can remember all the old ideas that are now being reinvented, and I would let all of you to chime in. Of course you can help spread the “retread meme.”

  1. 1.0 -> 2.0

    personal home page -> blog
    rich media -> video
    page views -> visitors
    media metrix -> comscore
    personal publishing -> user generated content
    revolution -> revolution
    “eyeballs” -> “eyeballs”
    “[fill in the blank] just doesn’t get it” -> “[fill in the blank] just doesn’t get it”

  2. There’s an old saying. Okay maybe not that old. It goes something like this.

    Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again’ :)

    Don’t forget to add…

    Web 1.0 = Corvis (how painful an experience)
    Web 2.0 = Broadwing
