Indian Online Bill Payers To Grow Six-Fold To 1.8 Million By ’07-08

Here is a report from the Internet And Mobile Association of India on online bill payment market in India. According to the report, the number of Indians paying bills online is expected to increase from the current 0.3 million in 2005-06 to 1.8 million by 2007-2008. Currently, the average Indian household in the top 10 India cities pays 42 bills annually, most of it to finance, insurance, telecommunications and utilities companies. Among cities, Mumbai constituted 26.6 per cent of online bill payers, Delhi claiming 19.8 per cent and 6.5 per cent from Bangalore. India’s Internet population currently stands at 38.5 million and is set to grow to a 100 million by 2007-08. The 41-page report is here (pdf).
