Media General, the newspaper and TV company, has reported its Q1 earnings, and its online revenues were $2.1 million, a 37.2 percent increase from the year-ago period, and were driven by online classifieds, which rose 28 percent. Overall, it reported earnings of $6.7 million, down 28 percent from a year ago, excluding an accounting charge of $325 million in the period. With that charge, the company posted a year-earlier loss of $316.2 million.
Media General owns Tampa Tribune and 13 percent at the Richmond Times-Dispatch, among others properties.
