Airtel Joins Bridge Mobile Alliance For Mobile Content And Other Services

Press release: India’s Airtel has partnered with Bridge Mobile Alliance (BMA), an Asian alliance of eight mobile operators, for seamless cross-border mobile services including content across the Asia Pacific region. Airtel has roughly 20 million mobile subscribers. Bridge Mobile Alliance, set up in 2004, has a combined subscriber base of over 78 million customers. The alliance has eight members from Asia Pacific – Airtel (India), CSL (Hong Kong), Globe Telecom (Philippines), Maxis (Malaysia), SingTel Mobile (Singapore), SingTel Optus (Australia), Taiwan Mobile (Taiwan) and Telkomsel (Indonesia). Bridge Mobile Alliance also enables the availability of its members’ content across its total subcriber base of 78 million customers.
Airtel, which has a over 50,000 pieces of bollywood, cricket and Indian music content, can now target the subscribers of the other member operators. Says Patrick Sim, Chief Executive Officer, Bridge Mobile, “Creating an extensive menu of Asian-centric content and services for different customers can be extremely costly, especially when the individual market segments are relatively small. Through the partnership of the Bridge Mobile Alliance, we are able to extend our member operators’ local content offerings to other members in the region. We can do so more cost effectively, and at the same time, offer our customers a wider selection of content to choose from.”
