Qualcomm “Rebuffed” From Korean Mobile TV Market

The Korea Times: The Korean Ministry of Information and Communication has slapped down Qualcomm’s effort to take MediaFLO to the nation, saying there won’t be any spectrum available for the technology until at least 2010. “There will be no available channels until 2010 when frequencies are returned to the government in time with conversion of analogue TV to digital,” said Joo Jong-ok, director at the ministry. “Even if Qualcomm reportedly tries to consolidate MediaFlo with Korean mobile broadcasting services, the firm still needs a radio frequency. As a result, it would be impossible for it to deploy MediaFlo here before the digital switchover.” The head of Qualcomm Korea recently proposed the merger of MediaFLO and T-DMB.
